Hello im I have a pixel marquee currently working with hyperspin but im switching over to the retrobat front end which uses windows emulation station. How can I get my marquee to work with this? Thanks!
Retrobat is not a supported front end for Pixelcade. You could try on your own to make it work but would require some development efforts. You'd need to first see if Retrobat has any hooks that can call an external program before game launch and then use the Pixelcade API if so https://pixelcade.org/api/
@pixelcade-admin sigh.. Sadly that is not in my wheel house or skillset. Its a shame because things run so much smoother and snappier with retrobat then my hyperspin build and I would love to fully make a switch. Especially because hyperspin is essentially dead. Not sure what I can do at this point.....
@pixelcade-admin Does it make any difference that retrobat is basically just emulation station? Will emulation station ever be supported?
retropie, batoera, and emuelec on the linux platform all use emulationstation and are supported but there are different versions of emulation station and also the scripts that they use would need to be ported to windows .bat files vs. .sh linux files, these specifically https://github.com/alinke/pixelcade-linux/tree/main/batocera/scripts
it's just a matter of time vs. the number of users (you're the first one requesting retrobat)
@pixelcade-admin Ya im a part of some facebook groups where popularity for it is blowing up. It has been a great streamlined platform so far! Im really hoping to get my bitpixel working with it. Im willing to pitch in financially a bit to make this happen hehe. I wanna finally ditch hyperspin.
I'm swamped right now, can go there if there is more demand. You've already looked into BigBox or CoinOps?
@pixelcade-admin ya coin ops is a little too locked down bigbox was ok. Not sure where to get demand but guess ill try. I dont expect anything to be done right away either just hoping it can be. Love the marquee.
Hello @pixelcade-admin
The fact is Retrobat is pretty young compare to all others systems. But got a lot a avantages, as is EmulationStation based (the F.Caruso version) over Windows (so no need to boot, you can shut down your Excel sheet and start Retrobat).
There is allready the request on the past for this kind of features, but we didn't know where to push them through. Hope they will let a message there.
Thank you both for looking into this! I heard this mentioned as well "But, you could use the same script Batocera does in order to drive your Pixelcade. You'll just need to install the equivalent of Java and Python on your Windows machine in order to use it, and to convert the SH script into a BATCH one instead.". No clue if that helps lol
@RetroWolfe that helps, I posted this also https://retrobat.forumgaming.fr/t961-adding-support-for-pixelcade#5468 but yes that helps
@pixelcade-admin awesome glad to see the ball is rolling. Thanks for all your hard work on this great product.
@RetroWolfe it seems to be doable, big thanks to @getupor who has been super helpful and responsive. So I need to code up some scripts on my end but the plumbing is there. For RetroBat V4, Pixelcade will be able to change when a game is launched. For RetroBat V5 when that is out, Pixelcade can change on game launches and also during game and system scrolling in EmulationStation
initial code here https://github.com/alinke/pixelcade-retrobat
still in development and this will integrate with the existing Pixelcade installer so normal users won't need to go to Git
