High Scores

Note that high score scrolling is supported on Launch Box/Big Box, HyperSpin, and GameEx. High score scrolling is not available on RetroPie and CoinOps. Pixelcade high scores do require an additional purchase of the LEDBlinky software ($25 USD at the time of this writing) from http://ledblinky.net.

How to Setup Pixelcade High Score Scrolling

MAME game high scores are supported on both Pixelcade LED and Pixelcade LCD marquees. Please note that high scores are supported on 30% of MAME games meaning not all MAME games will display high scores. Refer to this list which documents which MAME games do and do not support high scores and this in general if you want to dive into the inner workings of how high scores work. High scores will not display for non MAME based games.

Step 1: Install the latest version of Pixelcade Windows from https://pixelcade.org/download-pc/

You must also complete the Pixelcade Arcade Front End Setup Wizard that launches at the end of the Pixelcade installation. Choose your arcade front end and follow the prompts.

VERY IMPORTANT: You must select the correct folder with your MAME location during the Arcade Front End Wizard.

Please also ensure your MAME folder contains a sub-directory called “hi”. Note that newer versions of MAME will have high scores in a sub-folder called “hiscore” which is also fine. BUT if you have both “hi” and a “hiscore” folder, then rename the “hi” folder to someone else as most likely “hiscore” is the active folder which contains your .hi files.

Step 2: After purchasing LEDBlinky, you will receive two registration files in your email. Copy these files to your LEDBlinky directory (D:\Arcade\LEDBlinky for example).

Step 3: Launch your arcade front end and choose a MAME game that supports high scores.

Step 4: Play the game and actually obtain a high score.

Step 5: Exit the game and launch again. Pixelcade should now be scrolling “Now Playing plus the top 3 high scores as in the above video. Proceed to the Troubleshooting section if high scores are not displaying.

Customizing High Scores

By default, the top three high scores for the launched game will scroll one time on game launch and then the normal Arcade marquee and/or animation will display.

You can, however, customize Pixelcade high scores using the Configure LEDBlinky program.

From the Configure LEDBlinky program, click the “Integrations” tab and then “Game Active”. Here are some customization examples:

Default configuration – The top 3 high scores will scroll one time and then the game marquee and/or animation displays

Change Repeat to scroll additional times. Changing to 1 for example will tell Pixelcade to scroll one more time for a total of two loops before switching to the game marquee. If you change to 3 for example, Pixelcade will loop high scores 4 times total.

Changing to “hiscoreall” will scroll all high scores as opposed to just the top 3. Note that some games can have 10+ high scores so this could take awhile.

Changing to “hiscore” will display the single top high score only.

Troubleshooting

From the Configure LEDBlinky program, click the “MAME” tab and ensure that the MAME folder path is correct.

Also check this folder and ensure that it contains a sub-folder called “hi”.

Reboot after making these changes and try again.
